Appetising in-store motion graphics for CHOPT Creative Salad Co.

Working closely with CHOPT’s requirements, we refined early creative explorations into a design that was both functional and aligned with the brand. The process began with a broad range of stylistic directions, which were gradually narrowed through the development of style frames and ongoing client feedback.

The Challenge

A key challenge was being able to integrate enough of the footage, including salad shots and founder footage, provided by the CHOPT Team into the short videos, while also maintaining clarity and readability, which required some enhancements and adjustments. Additionally, as this was CHOPT's first time using animated boards within their stores, some initial expectations and reference points evolved throughout the project.

The Solution

We delivered multiple high-quality video outputs in a range of aspect ratios, tailored for in-store displays, the website, and CHOPT’s social channels. Studio-shot menu footage supplied by the client was incorporated alongside all other provided assets to ensure consistency across platforms.

Some source assets required enhancement, including upscaling, frame-rate adjustments, and the integration of additional footage provided by the CHOPT Team.

Topaz, along with plugins like Boa, were used to improve asset quality without compromise and to achieve specific motion effects, including the signature salad spins.

Design choices were refined to align with the client’s visual preferences while keeping the messaging clear and impactful. Last-minute changes were managed efficiently through daily feedback and iterative updates, ensuring all imagery appeared correctly and at the intended moments throughout the project.

CHOPT In-Store Motion is a suite of animated video assets produced by Buff Motion for CHOPT, the American salad restaurant brand, created to support the launch of animated menu boards across CHOPT's flagship store as well as providing updated visual content for the brand's website and social channels. Brighton-based Buff Motion, a B Corporation-certified studio, managed the full production process, beginning with a broad range of stylistic explorations that were refined through iterative style frame development and ongoing client feedback. The production required integration of client-supplied footage — including studio salad shots, founder footage, and sauce visuals — alongside enhancements to existing source assets, with upscaling, frame-rate adjustments, and the use of specialist tools, including Topaz and the After Effects plugin Boa, deployed to achieve specific motion effects such as the signature salad spins. Deliverables were produced across multiple aspect ratios, tailored for in-store displays, the website, and social channels, marking CHOPT's first use of animated boards within their retail environment. Daily feedback cycles and iterative updates allowed last-minute changes to be managed within a tight timeline, with the final output maintaining consistency and readability across all touchpoints.

The Impact

Through collaborative troubleshooting, our team navigated technical limitations and ensured all content met the specific format requirements across multiple use cases. The CHOPT Team’s clear vision helped focus early creative explorations into a cohesive on-screen experience that prioritised readability and brand alignment.

Despite tight timelines, the project remained on schedule, and the final videos delivered clear, consistent messaging across touchpoints. The work supported CHOPT’s flagship store launch with their first animated menu boards, while also providing updated visual assets for their website and social channels.
