Hello, nice to meet you!

Since day one, we’ve focused our efforts on building a studio where talented people are supported to grow and create great work that matters - together.

Buff was founded in 2014 by Chloe and Tom.

The wellbeing of our team is super important to us. We want everyone to feel valued, supported and challenged. We put a strong emphasis on personal development, making time for training, coaching, sharpening up our skills – and getting together outside the office.

It all makes the team tighter, and the work stronger.

Our guiding principles:

1. Build a valued team.
2. Work openly with integrity.
3. Use time and energy wisely.
4. Make shareworthy content.
5. Reflect and improve.

Chloe Flexman

Studio Director & Founder

Chloe Flexman

“I love that my role is all about making the studio better. I really enjoy problem solving, working on strategy and supporting the team’s development. The fact that I work across all areas of the business is great too. It offers variety and is perfect for me as a jack of all trades!"

Lawrie Mallyon

Head of Production

Lawrie Mallyon

"My favourite thing about being Head of Production is the variety. My day involves so many different types of tasks and hats to wear which keeps it interesting. Plus I’m involved in every project that comes through the studio and get to work closely with the whole Buff team, which is an honour!"

Daniel Stewart

Motion Designer

"What I love most about my job is using new techniques (such as incorporating a new piece of software into my workflow) and refining existing ones to level up my work. I love mixing 2D and 3D styles. I like that working at Buff allows me to work on diverse projects from a wide array of clients rather than just one client or sector. At Buff I’m surrounded by highly skilled people and that keeps me on my toes and makes me want to raise my game! I like that at Buff everyone’s opinion is respected and taken into account. It’s an encouraging environment."

Mark Longworth

Motion Designer

Mark Longworth

"I really enjoy the variety of the type and styles of work we do here at Buff. As a Motion Designer, I could be involved in the whole process from start to finish or just a single section of it before handing it to someone else. Different parts of the creative process require you to think in different ways so I really enjoy having the variety."

Tom Allen

Creative Director & Founder

Tom Allen

"I really enjoy working across a range of different styles and project types. We have a lovely team who are a pleasure to spend time with. I love that my job involves both creative and business tasks. In any one day, I could be ‘on the tools’ animating, giving the creative team feedback, meeting with a new client and having a business planning conversation with Chloe. It’s never boring!"

Nick Candeias

I get to be curious, try new techniques, meet new people, and learn from them. I love being around people who are more skilled than me I never compare myself or feel intimidated because I keep my ego out of the game. I have an genuine interest in learning from everyone around me, no matter the age/experience, everyone has something to share, a story to tell, and it’s amazing learning new perspectives and new solutions to problems I’ve tackled.

So being at Buff, an environment where I get to be curious and learn, is incredible, and I am very lucky!

Myungeun Kim

Senior Motion Designer

Myungeun Kim

"I feel lucky to do what I love every day—being creative. At Buff, I get to work with incredibly talented and genuinely kind people who inspire me and make it easy to be myself. I especially enjoy coming up with concepts and shaping stories from the ground up. There’s also a special kind of joy in seeing neatly ticked boxes and beautifully organised Google Sheets—creative chaos with a touch of order!"

Kathleen Lang

Studio Manager

Kathleen Lang

"I’m the Studio Manager here at Buff, and no two days are ever the same—which is exactly what I love about my role! I handle the day-to-day operations and act as a central point of contact, ensuring the studio runs smoothly. I also work to improve our approach to culture, creating a supportive environment where our team can truly thrive.

It's a privilege to support a studio that is committed to producing exceptional creative work, making a positive impact, all while championing our excellent team."

Margo Semcuk

Senior Designer

Margo Semcuk

"I love that I get to work on some really cool projects and be creative every single day. I get most excited about being able to set the style, especially if it involves character design. I love coming up with colour palettes and working out the flow of the animation through the storyboard.

It always excites me to work with the talented animators at Buff and see how they tackle the animation part of the process too."

Luke Jones

Producer

Luke Jones

"Being a Producer at Buff is genuinely a pleasure, thanks to our incredibly talented and lovely team. The work quality is consistently high, and I'm fortunate enough to collaborate with both a fantastic team and wonderful clients. Buff truly prioritises its employees, fostering talent and ensuring a healthy work-life balance, all while delivering exceptional results!"

Georgie Sweet

Motion Designer

Georgie Sweet

"I love that satisfying feeling of seeing a static design suddenly move with character and purpose. The variety keeps things exciting - each project is a new puzzle to solve, and there’s always more to learn. Getting to work alongside immensely talented and passionate creatives keeps me inspired and always motivated to keep up with them! Outside of motion, I also write songs and sing - music is my second creative outlet and a big influence on how I approach creative work."

Working at Buff

One of our core beliefs is that a happy team flourishes and produces great work together. We aim to provide a supportive environment where everyone feels valued. As part of this continued focus, we incorporate the following as part of any role with us:
The company was founded on a desire to strike a good balance between home and work life. So whilst we’re passionate about what we do and committed to making great work, it’s important to us that every person on the team feels happy and valued - and finishes work on time. It’s rare to see us working into the night or on weekends, but if it happens then we give you back time off in lieu.
All full-time employees start with 25 days of annual leave (plus all bank holidays). You get an additional day of leave for every year of service, up to 5 more. We also close the studio between Christmas and New Year to give everyone more time to enjoy with friends and family. We fully support working parents and offer enhanced parental leave.
We keep regular tabs on industry standards when it comes to salary and aim to reward people more than fairly wherever possible. We review and talk about salary at least every six months as part of our performance reviews. We have a profit-share bonus scheme and a December bonus to help with the festivities. Our workplace pension scheme is with Nest and includes a 5% employer contribution. We’re also registered with the Brighton & Hove Living Wage Campaign and fully support disclosed salaries on job adverts. It’s all part of building a team that feels valued.
We’re dedicated to supporting people’s growth and development. We offer funded training opportunities and have a regular review process to reflect and set goals. Alongside the everyday giving and receiving of feedback, we use our appraisals to consolidate helpful feedback into goals to provide everyone the opportunity to get better at what we do.
We take wellbeing seriously. It’s always part of our check-in conversations and we’re signed up to the Being Well Together programme. We also have a Wellbeing Lead, trained in Mental Health First Aid. We offer all of our employees and their families private medical insurance which comes with dental cover, online GP access and a self-referred mental health pathway.
As a business, we’re taking steps to increase the positive impact we have on our clients, team, community and planet. We collect feedback from our projects and along with our own debriefs, use what we find to improve future outcomes. We run employee satisfaction surveys to learn about how we can build a better workplace. We offer Animation for Good discounts to positive causes and paid volunteering opportunities for local nonprofits. We’re 1% for the Planet members and use climate positive tools like Ecologi and B1G1 to give back.
Everyone gets direct access to the leadership team and is encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas. We’re a dynamic business that seeks continual improvement. We’re not afraid to make changes if we see the value so everyone on the team can help shape our future. We have an anonymous suggestion box and share regular team surveys for feedback.
Although we’re a majority studio-based culture, people have the option to work some of the week from home - either planned in advance or called on the day. We also offer working vacation days where people can work from any location globally to support extended periods of travel or visiting family.
We organise regular social events and away days. We have Monday breakfasts and Friday inspiration sessions to start and finish the week together. We also have summer and Christmas parties.
We have a super studio space in the centre of Brighton (North Laine area), with plenty of natural light and height-adjustable desks. Pretty much everything you could want is on our doorstep and we’re a 10-minute walk to the beach.
We’re a friendly bunch who are welcoming, open and fun. We approach things with what we feel is the right mix of professionalism and appreciation that we’re lucky enough to make animations for a living… You can’t take that too seriously!

Positive impact through motion. Our studio and team are passionate about having a positive impact on the world through the work we do and the causes we support.

We produced an Impact Report for our last year of business, discussing what we’ve achieved and how we want to improve in the coming year – for our team, clients, communities and planet.
We’re a Certified B Corp which means we’re dedicated to using our business as a force for good. We have been verified to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.
