Why This Reel Feels Different

Releasing our tenth studio reel feels like a defining moment for our team at Buff. It’s an opportunity to pause, reflect, and celebrate how far we’ve come. It’s more than just a showcase, our reels capture the evolution of our approach, one that places a lot of consideration on the way our work is made.

Defining Our Style

We believe motion is more than just movement; it carries a personality, a voice, an ability to connect emotionally. Every move we make is crafted with intention, ensuring that the energy, weight, and rhythm of each sequence resonates on a meaningful level. This commitment is something we hope is evident in our latest reel and everything we put out into the world.

It’s difficult to articulate, but if we tried to define our house style, it would be clean and graphic visuals, underpinned by considered, playful movement. We create moments of joy through the subtleties of motion, moments that feel effortless yet are designed to fascinate and delight. This philosophy isn’t just an aesthetic choice; it’s a guiding principle that influences how we approach every project.

Entering An Industry Shift

The role of motion within the wider creative industry and other disciplines has vastly shifted in the last decade. The demand for motion has increased, with brands and agencies recognising that movement is no longer just an embellishment - it’s integral to identity, storytelling, and user experience.

With this shift, we’ve found our role evolving too. Whilst we have formerly been known as a ‘motion design studio’, we increasingly find ourselves taking on projects that blur these traditional outputs. Whether it’s shaping brand identities, improving digital experiences, or enhancing campaign strategies, our expertise in the implementation of motion has proven to be valuable across a wide range of disciplines. With this in mind…

We now consider ourselves a motion-first creative studio.

We’ve always enjoyed that our output is broad in style, but now the variation in types of projects and delivery mechanisms allow us to be continually learning, evolving, and offering value in areas that we haven’t previously. This has given us even greater impetus for what the future looks like and will form our plans for how we grow our business moving forward.

Make Better Work, By Making Work Better

In 2024, we took a step that felt both monumental and entirely natural for us by becoming B Corp Certified.

For us, this wasn’t about adding sustainability initiatives on top of our business, it was about formalising what we’ve always believed in. It was a commitment to ensuring that every decision we make, both internally and externally, aligns with our values.

What does this really mean for the Buff Team?

Creating a work environment that supports creative excellence because we believe creativity flourishes in the right environment. Supporting our team’s wellbeing ensures they’re able to bring their best to every project. We push back against unrealistic deadlines and prioritise balance. Great work doesn’t come from burnout.

We value building long-term relationships, not just transactions with our team, our clients, and our collaborators. We work openly and collaboratively. We want to be the best motion studio to work with and for.

We choose share worthy projects that align with our values and deliver real value for both our clients and audience. They don’t need to solve the world’s problems, but they need to have a clear purpose

Reflect and improve, reflect and improve

Having an analytical mindset and continually asking ourselves and the people we collaborate with “What could make this better?”. Then folding these ideas into the next project so we’re always learning. These principles feed directly into how we operate as a studio.

"By making the process better, more thoughtful, more sustainable, more human, we create better work. - Chloe Flexman, Co-Founder, Buff

This approach benefits everyone we work with. Some of our clients have told us that our process has influenced how they think about their own workflows, and that’s something we’re very proud of.

As we look ahead, we’re excited to keep evolving, learning, and refining our craft. We’re grateful to be on this journey, and we can’t wait to see where it takes us next.

FAQ's About Buff Motion's 10th Studio Reel

What does it mean to be a "motion-first" creative studio?

Historically, motion was seen as a final "polish" added to a project. As a motion-first studio, we believe movement is integral to a brand’s identity from day one. We don't just animate existing designs, we consider the rhythm, weight and energy of motion to shape brand stories, digital experiences, and campaign strategies from the ground up.

How does being B Corp Certified affect the work you produce?

Our B Corp Certification isn't just a badge, it’s a commitment to "making work better to make better work." By prioritising our team's wellbeing and rejecting the culture of burnout, we ensure everyone hasthe headspace to deliver excellence. For our clients, this means more transparent collaboration, purposeful storytelling, and a process that values long-term relationships over simple transactions.

How would you describe the "Buff" house style?

Our style is clean and graphic visuals underpinned by considered, playful movement. We focus on the subtleties - the small, effortless-looking moments of motion that fascinate and delight an audience. Our goal is to create visuals that feel sophisticated and intentional, ensuring every sequence resonates on an emotional level.
