TrustedHousesitters: How it Works

We worked with fellow Brighton-based brand TrustedHousesitters to produce a character-led animation that explains how their service works. We developed a look and feel that moved the brand style in a new direction. It’s been well-received by the TrustedHousesitters team who have plans to utilise the art direction elsewhere across the brand.

Client: TrustedHousesitters

Role: Concept design, script and production

The Brief

TrustedHousesitters is a platform that connects people who have pets & homes that need looking after while they go away – with people who want to look after pets as a holiday. The team at TrustedHousesitters came to us with a brief to design an animated video solution for the homepage of their website. It would also be used on social media to draw people to the site for more information. As this would be the first point of contact for new visitors to the site, it needed to be engaging and most importantly explain the concept of what the service offers in a clear way. The problem TrustedHousesitters had been experiencing was that people understood the concept but were unclear as to how it actually worked.

Our Solution

We opted early on to tackle the script with a user focused storyline as we felt using ‘real’ scenarios explained the process more clearly. It gave us the opportunity to walk through the site and show things from both parties’ point of view: the person listing their home and the potential sitter. The existing brand centred around people and so had featured photography of both people & animals predominantly, with some iconography across the site. It also utilised a handwritten font with texture. With the design of the animation, we discussed with the client expanding their brand to incorporate illustration, following a hand-drawn feel, as it gave us scope to give the central characters more interest and personality. We demonstrated our thinking with a series of moodboards.

Design & Development

Design

We put together style suggestions in the form of moodboards and references, which the client loved. We then found an illustrator who we felt could create something in-line with the moodboards, whilst adding their own flare to create something bespoke for TrustedHousesitters.

Development

Once the overall look and feel was approved, we finalised the character and UI design to ensure they represented the brand / website well.
